Zatra of Shri Shantadurga



The Zatra of Shri Shantadurga takes place in the Indian month of Paush, which corresponds with the months of December and January. It is an annual event. Celebrated at the Dhargali in Pernem, the Zatra of Shri Shantadurga involves a colorful procession with which the devotees take the deity out of the temple for the day.

In the same month the annual Zatra of Shri Shantadurga at Kunkoliemkarin at Fatorpa in Quepem also takes place. Even this Zatra is a colorful affair with thousands of devotees and tourists flocking to be present at the festival from various places.

Some of the names of other temples where the Zatras are of special importance are Calangute, Mangueshi, Karmali, Nagueshi, Velinga, Ramnathi, Mapusam, Kavlem, Madki, Mala-Panaji, Kundai, Mashel, Shiroda, Amona, Khandepar, Fatorpa, Borim, Mulgaon and Kapileshwari.
