Gujarat state is situated in the western part of India. This state is surrounded by Rajasthan (north), Maharashtra (south), Madhya Pradesh (east) and Pakistan's Sindh province as well as the Arabian Sea (west). Gandhinagar is the capital of Gujarat and the biggest city is Ahmedabad. The mother tongue of Gujarat is Gujarati. Father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi, was also from Gujarat. This state is also famous as a dry state, where selling or buying alcohol is not legal.

Gujarat Districts

Gujarat state has been of vital importance in India's economic growth. Gujarat is known as India's fastest growing economy state. This state is also well-known for its industrialisation and GDP growth much above the average of our nation.

In 1960, Gujarat state come into existence from the 17 northern districts namely, Ahmedabad, Bharuch, Amreli, Banaskantha, Dang, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Kachchh, Kheda, Mehsana, Rajkot, Panchmahal, Sabarkantha, Vadodara (Baroda), Surendranagar and Surat, which initially were from Bombay state.

Later In 1964, the capital district Gandhinagar was created from some part of Mahesana and Ahmedabad. Two years later in 1966, Valsad was separated from Surat. After that, Anand, Dahod, Narmada, Navsari and Porbandar were formed in 1997 spliting from several other districts. Patan was formed in 2000 and Tapi was created in 2007, which was the 26th district of the state.

Here are a few important districts of Gujarat.

Gandhinagar: This district is the soul of Gujarat. It is Gujarat's both, cultural as well as commercial thread.

Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad, better known as India's Manchester, is famous for its textile industries.

Vadodara: This district is known for its fertiliser, pharmaceutical and glass industries, making it Gujarat's major industrial hub.

Rajkot: It is known for producing sugarcane, groundnut and cotton.

Surat: If you want to get the best diamonds in India, this is the district you should pay a visit to. Surat gives the diamonds a clear cut and polish. This place is also known for its zari work.

Anand: This is another district which brings the best dairy product brand 'Amul'. The main dairy is located here.

Kutch: Kutch is the largest district not only in Gujarat, but also in India. Majority of land in Kutch is in the desert form. One can visit places like Aina Mahal, Kutch museum, ethnology museum, Royal Cenotaphs Chattris and Sharad Bagh Palace.
