Politician, Polit Bureau member of Communist Party of India (Marxist) since 1985.
Was actively involved in Trade Union Activities from a very young age.
Was one among the 32 founder members of CPI(M) who left the CPI National Council in 1964
A prime figure in the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising of the farmers to stand against the inequalities meted out to them.
Currently elected from Malampuzha Constituency in Palghat district to the state legislature
Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967, 1970, 1991, 2001 and 2006 and Leader of Opposition from 1992 to 1996 and from 2001 to 2006.
Chosen unanimously by State Committee and Polit Bureau of CPI(M) to be the Chief Minister of Kerala in 2006. Widely liked politician of Kerala, fondly addressed as “Comrade V S”
