The Honorable Governor of Kerala is Mr R.L. Bhatia. He was sworn in on the 23rd June 2004 at the Raj Bhavan. The oath of the Office of the Governor (Kerala) was administered by the erstwhile Chief Justice of Kerala High Court Mr. N.K. Sodhi.

Educational Qualifications:
Graduation from Punjab University
LLB from University of Lahore

Achievements:
Elected to Lok Sabha from Amritsar Parliamentary Constituency in 1972, 1980, 1985, 1992, 1996 & 1999.
Was the Minister of State for External Affairs for the Central Government in July 1992.
Was Chairman of the Committee of Petitions of Lok Sabha, 1983.
Member of the committee for amendment of the Constitution of India, 1992.

Worked in a consultative capacity for several Parliamentary Ministries such as –

Ministry of Home Affairs
Ministry of Education
Railways Ministry
Ministry of Information and Broadcasting
Ministry of Law and Justice
Ministry of Company Affairs

International Co-operation
Mr. R.L. Bhatia has been part of many foreign country delegations such as-

Co-chairman of All India Peace & Solidarity organization 1981-83
Vice President of Friends of Soviet Union 1983-84.

Congress Party:
Was the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee 1982-84, General Secretary of AICC 1991. Was a member of the executive committee of Congress parliamentary party from 1975 to 1977.
