Tamil Nadu with its strategic location in southeast India boasts of an age-old cultural legacy. Formerly known as Madras State, Tamil Nadu encompasses the geometric coordinates of 13°05'North to 80°16'East and occupies an area of 130,058 sq. km. The state has an elongated coastline of nearly 1000 km dotted with lush foliage comprising of coconut and casuarinas groves behind which the elusive ocean waters gleam under the playful saffron sunbeams like a mirage of quicksilver.

Tamil Nadu’s pride lies in the exquisite, revered paradise of Kanyakumari, India’s southern most tip that is the confluence of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea. The state is flanked by Arabian Sea and the states of Kerala and Karnataka in the west, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the north and the voluminous Bay of Bengal in the east. The sparkling Pulicat Lake is located far north.

Tamil Nadu, peacefully resting on the Coromandel Coast, has the perfect location. Enclosed safely between the states of Pondicherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the state is replete with lofty jungle-clad hills, low-lying fertile plains as well as sun kissed beaches. The state’s natural boundary comprises of the Eastern Ghats in the north and Nilgiri, the Annamalai Hills, and Palakkad on the west. The Kaveri, Palar, and Vaigai rivers drain the state whose fertile alluvial terrains lie along the Coromandel Coast, the Palk Strait, and the Gulf of Mannar
