In the Commonwealth Games, shooting includes mainly five sections, Shotgun, Rifle, Airgun, Pistol and Small-bore rifle and Full-bore rifle. While Shotgun includes shooting of clay discs, pistols and air rifles are fired from indoor range distance of 10 m and small-bore and 22 calibre includes firing from a distance of 50 m whether by kneeling or standing. On the other hand, full-bore rifles which are generally 7.62 calibre, participants need to fire from different ranges which go up to 1000 yards and pistol shooting includes firing from a distance of 25 m.
In the clay target, both men and participants compete for 12 gold medals in Skeet, Trap and Double Trap section. Participants that include both men and women fight for 14 gold medals in pistol firing. The participants fight for 12 gold medals in small bore rifle, full-bore firing and airgun.
Elite athletes from different Commonwealth countries make a perfect display of accuracy, skill, speed and concentration in this event. Shooting program of the Commonwealth Games follows the rules and regulations of the International Shooting Sport Federation also known as ISSF.
The venue for 2010 Commonwealth Games was Dr. K.S. Shooting Range. While male athletes competed for 69 medals in all, women participants competed for 39 medals.
The Clay Target event will be held from 6th to 13th October. Men will be competing in the following segments:

- Double Trap Individual & Pairs,
- Skeet Individual & Pairs
Women will be competing in the following segments
