Ooty:
Ooty is not only popular in Karnataka, but all over in the country. It is popularly known as 'Queen of Hill Stations'. A wide range of mountains, sound of wildlife and the greenery in the hill station can leave the visitors awestruck. It is perfect for adventure lovers, honeymooners and even family vacationers. Ooty is approximately 267 kms away from Bangalore. There is no direct train from Bangalore but one can take a train to Mysore and then take a bus for Ooty. It is best to take a bus (state transport or private bus) which can reach the hill station in 7- 8 hours. Droof Fort, Botanical Gardens, Kalhatty Waterfalls, Dodabetta Peak are the best places to visit in Ooty. Hotels and resorts are available in different price ranges depending upon the facilities, which can be suitable for every pocket.
Kodaikanal:
Kodaikanal is one of the most exquisite hill stations in Tamil Nadu. As per the local language, 'Kodaikanal' means the gift of the forest. The beauty of the place emerges from the beautiful streams, varieties of flora and fauna and the lovely cascades. At a distance of 466 kms from Bangalore, one can reach Kodaikanal by air, rail and road. Kodai Road is the nearest railway station which is also 100 kms away from Kodaikanal. Buses are also available from several nearby places to reach the destination. Kodaikanal Lake, Devil's Kitchen, Old Suicide Point, Kurinjiandavar Temple, etc are few popular places to see during the trip. One can indulge in activities such as horse riding, trekking, balloon shooting etc. One can shop for variety of cheese, spices and home made chocolates from Kodaikanal. Abundant hotels are present in the hill station where the visitors can stay and take accommodation.
Gokarna:
Gokarna is a small town in Karnataka and attracts many Indian and foreign tourists. The meaning of 'Gokarna' is 'cow's ear' and has references from Hindu mythology. It is around 485 kms away from Bangalore and one can either take a flight, train or a bus to reach this place. The nearest railway station is Ankola which is at a distance of 25 kms while the nearest airport Dabolim is 140 kms away. State transport buses are also available from Bangalore. Several beaches such as Gokarna Beach, Paradise Beach and Half Moon Beach and Mahabaleshwar temple are some of the must visit places in Gokarna. Several guest houses, hotels and resorts are available in Gokarna for accommodation, but finding an accommodation during peak season is a tough task. One can shop for psychedelic T-shirts, religious items and jewellery here.
Coorg:
Coorg is another fascinating hill station in Karnataka. The lush green pastures of this place create a magic spell on the visitors. It is popularly known as the 'Scotland of India' and the 'Kashmir of the South'. There is no direct train and flight to Coorg and the best way to reach here is through road. The approximately 280 kms journey from Bangalore will take 4-5 hours by road. Raja's seat, Nagarhole National Park, Abbey Falls, Omkareshwara Temple etc. are the places not to be missed during a trip to Coorg. There are many hotels where one can stay during the tour here. For the shoppers, there are many options to buy from Coorg such as freshly grounded spices, brewed coffee and silk sarees.
Mysore:
Mysore is the second largest city of Karnataka and fascinates people with its charm and grandeur. It is rich in its cultural heritage, beautiful gardens, architecturally magnificent buildings, sacred temples and enticing palaces. A journey of 2-3 hours by road is what is required to cover the distance of approximately 144 kms and reach Mysore from Bangalore city. However, one can also take a train to Mysore. Mysore Palace is the most fascinating place to visit in Mysore. Dariya Daulat Bagh, Srirangapatnam Fort, Balmuri and Mysore Zoo are also the places of attractions here. The best time to travel to Mysore is considered to be from September to March. There are many restaurants and eating joints where one can enjoy the mouth watering delicacies. Dandeli:
Dandeli is a small town situated in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district and is popular among the adventure lovers for the plenty of activities for them. The varied flora and fauna and thick forests fascinate the tourist. The average distance between Bangalore and Dandeli is approximately 465 kms. One can take a train or a bus to Hubli from where one can then take a local bus to further reach Dandeli. For staying purpose, one can take lodging at a State Lodge, adventure camp or home stay options. Kulgi natural camp, Kavala Caves, Wildlife Sanctuary and Shiroli Peak are few places which must be visited during the trip to Dandeli. This place is a host for many adventure activities such as cycling, kayaking, trekking, river rafting, mountain biking etc.
Nandi Hills:
It is a famous hangout zones for the inhabitants of Bangalore due to its close proximity to the city. It is only about 62 kms away from Bangalore and the journey by road might take only 1-1.5 hours. There are direct bus service from Bangalore or once can drive and take their private vehicle. Tippu's Drop, Temples, Children's Park etc are many places which can be visited in Nandi Hills. Lodging options are available here if one wishes to spend the night here too. Paragliding, trekking and cycling are adventure activities which can be included during the tour.
