1938 Commonwealth Games


The 1938 Commonwealth Games ranked among the major sporting events of the year. The Games were then known as the British Empire Games and were the third sporting event among the Commonwealth nations. It was a spectacular event and various sportsmen and women and athletes made their respective countries proud by winning various competitions.

The Commonwealth Games 1938 was held in the city of Sydney in New South Wales in Australia. The event was held from February 5th to February 12th. The event was held during this period to commemorate 150 years of British settlement in Sydney. The 1938 Commonwealth Games were held at wonderful venues like the Sydney Sports Ground, the Henson Park and North Sydney Pool. Around 40,000 people attended the event and the it was a great success.

Around 15 countries sent their teams for the 1938 Commonwealth Games. The events consisted of competitions like cycling, rowing, swimming, diving, wrestling, boxing, and athletics and so on. The countries which took part in the 1938 Commonwealth Games were:

Australia took the first position with a medal tally of 66 while England and Canada were second and third respectively.
