Secondary Education

Schools in Chennai are basically divided into 2 administrative categories: government schools and private schools.

Government Schools: These schools are funded by the government and offer education in both English and Tamil medium. They are affiliated to Tamil Nadu State Board or Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board, and the students appear for class 10 and class 12 board exams before becoming eligible for college. The Kendriya Vidyalayas offer education in both English and Hindi Medium.

Private Schools: Most of the private schools are also affiliated to Tamil Nadu State Board or Tamil Nadu Matriculation Board.
