Shilparamam is a very famous arts and crafts village located in Madhapur, Hyderabad. It is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. With an attempt to create an environment for the preservation of traditional arts and crafts, Shilparamam village is set among splendid rocks, beautiful waterfalls and marvelous lawns. Located 25 kilometers from Hyderabad which is less than an hour's drive from the city of Hyderabad, the crafts village is held throughout the year with a series of cultural events by the local rural life of Hyderabad folks. The village is regarded as a home for thousands of artisans where they visit and explore the several arts and crafts which are displayed at village fairs and local shops at Hyderabad. The designs and forms are very unique and traditional, which attract tourists from all over the world and which they take back at home as souvenirs.
Shilparamam, conceived in the year 1992, is spread over 65 acres of land in the hi-tech hub city of India. Here the middleman is not in the picture as the buyers come and pick up objects directly from the makers without having to deal with middlemen. In the past few years, the Arts and Crafts village has elicited a tremendous response with thousands of crafts people from all over the country selling their creations for crores.
The village organizes a yearly celebration of "All-India Festival of Arts and crafts" which is held during February. It displays the talent and skill of the local artisans and craftsmen in a very traditional yet extravagant way. The various decorative pieces can be bought at a very reasonable price. Other main activities of the festival include folk music, folk dance; the open air amphitheatre which displays exemplary performance by the theatre artists, boating around the man-made lake and a joyful ride accompanied by a local village folk as a guide.
