Afghanistan Earthquake: Tremors felt in North India; IPL players evacuated from Mohali hotel

9.34 AM IST, 11-04-2016: After an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude hit Hindukush mountain region at a depth of 280 km, the entire North India felt the tremors. The states such as Kashmir, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh were shaken. As the tremors were felt in Chandigarh as well, the players of new Indian Premier League team, Gujarat Lions, were evacuated from their Mohali hotel on the eve of their first match. Even some parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also felt the tremors. The tremors continued for at least 4-5 minutes.


 

A powerful 6.6 magnitude earthquake, which had its epicenter in Afghanistan’s Hindukush mountain range, shook north India. The tremors of the earthquake could be felt as far as Delhi. The Delhi metro halted its operations due to the intensity of the earthquake. The earthquake has hit Afghanistan, India and Pakistan. At the moment there are no reports of any casualties or damage to property.
