Cyclone Ockhi claims 16 lives in India and Sri Lanka
At least 16 people have been killed in India and Sri Lanka by the devastation caused by Cyclone Ockhi. Of these, nine were killed in India and seven in Sri Lanka. Most of the deaths occurred due to the uprooting of trees by strong winds with speed of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Officials have maintained that the Cyclone Ockhi might have moved away from Kerala. It may have moved to the Arabian Sea.

Cyclone Ockhi in Mumbai: schools shut, Western Railways deploys extra personnel
Cyclone Ockhi is creating havoc in several parts of the country. Cyclone Ockhi brought heavy rains in Mumbai, Maharashtra. As a precaution, schools in Mumbai and the neighboring districts remained closed today. In Mumbai, extra personnel have been deployed by the Western Railways in case an emergency arises due to the cyclone. In Surat, Gujarat, rescue teams have been deployed. BJP chief Amit Shah and others were to address rallies in the poll-bound state near the Saurashtra coast but the rallies have been cancelled.

Ockhi to bring downpours in parts of northwestern India
Tropical Cyclone Ockhi will lead to flooding and downpours in parts of northwestern India. According to media reports, the tropical cyclone has already claimed at least 25 lives in southern India. This past weekend the peak intensity of the cyclone was equal to that of a category 2 hurricane in the Atlantic and east Pacific Oceans. Over, the next 12 hours, the cyclone is expected to weaken further. Even though Ockhi is likely to weaken, downpours will still increase the risk of flooding in the eastern Rajasthan and Maharashtra.
