Ops continue in Pathankot, 1 more terrorist ‘dead’

2:00 PM IST, 4 January, 2016 – One more terrorist has been claimingly gunned down at the Pathankot air base, though the body is yet to be found. He is one among the two terrorists who were hiding at the base from where Russian-made MiG-21 fighter jets and Mi-35 attack helicopters fly. The operation to eliminate the last terrorist is in the final stage. Currently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the case and questioning SP Salvinder Singh and his cook who were in the car when the terrorists hijacked it. Investigations are underway and the BSF feel that the attackers may have infiltrated through the Ugh River that lies to the south of river Ravi.

Two security guards, 4 terrorists killed in terror attack in Punjab

Two security personnel were killed in a gun battle with terrorists in the Pathankot district of Punjab early on Saturday. A group of six terrorists, wearing military uniform, attacked an air force base – situated 200 km away from Chandigarh and 50 km from the border with Pakistan  – using an official vehicle. The suspected terrorists were sent by militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and they were holed up in a “non-operational” area of the air base. Sent to destroy assets at the facility, the terrorists opened fire around 3.30 a.m. Four of the terrorists died in the exchange of bullets with the police.

According to sources, the vehicle used by the attackers belongs to the Superintendent of Police of Gurdaspur. It was ‘hijacked’ in Pathankot on Friday by men in army uniform. The assailants took away the officer’s car after battering him. They also snatched away his phone. The intelligence agencies got to know of the possible attack after the terrorists used the SP’s phone to call their handlers in Pakistan. The area where fighter aircraft and helicopters are kept is reported to be safe.
