How to make Ginger Candies at home?

Fresh ginger and sugar are combined to make a sweet and sour dessert known as ginger candy or crystallized ginger. In terms of texture, it’s both chewy and crispy, with a zingy taste.

Three items are all that is needed to make crystallized ginger at home. First, homemade candy is healthier and less expensive than store-bought options because it lacks additives, preservatives, and colourings.

However, remember that the homemade version will be more profound in colour than the store-bought one since no lighting chemical is added. Since there are no preservatives, the shelf life is also shorter.

How should the candied ginger be prepared?

Remove the outer layer of the ginger root by gripping it tightly with both hands. Peel the ginger’s skin by scraping it against the spoon’s edge. The ginger root should be peeled in a circular motion using only as much as you want to use. You may also peel the skin using a dull knife.

Slicing: Use a sharp knife to slice the root into thin coins (about 18 inches). The candy can also be made by cutting it into small pieces. However, it seems dry if you slice it too thinly.

A Guide to making Ginger Syrup Candies:

  • Take three cups of water and cut three slices of ginger thinly. Add to a medium pot.
  • Use high heat, bring the water to a full, rolling boil. Turn down the heat and cook for 2 minutes after it reaches a rolling boil.
  • Squeeze out all but a few drops of water from the pan, then discard the rest. Ginger coins should be cooked in the same way two more times.
  • Ginger’s bitterness eliminates, and the fibrous cell wall is broken down, making it easier to chew. Sugar syrup is more readily absorbed when this is the case.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar and bring to a boil. Allow it to simmer for 5-6 minutes once it reaches a rolling boil.
  • Simmer the ginger for 20-30 minutes over low heat until it becomes translucent. Stirring will cause crystallization; therefore, refrain from doing so.
  • Use a fine-mesh strainer to remove the syrup and save it in the refrigerator.
  • Please be aware that the syrup is quite hot at this point and should be handled with extreme caution.
  • Afterwards, allow the ginger crystals to cool for two minutes. Add 14 cups castor sugar and toss until everything is well-coated.
  • Use a wire rack, dry ginger slices until crispy and fragrant.
  • Store in refrigerator for up to two months or two weeks at room temperature in an airtight container.
