With more affordable pricing than flagship OLED TVs from Samsung and LG, the LG C4 provides an almost unrivaled combination of features and performance. A Brightness Booster, one of the picture-enhancing technologies of LG's new Alpha 9 AI Processor 4K Gen7, gives the C4 a noticeable boost in picture brightness over earlier LG C-series TVs. The C4 supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG HDR formats. Additionally, it features a new Dolby Vision Filmmaker Mode preset that allows you to capture director-quality images without tinkering with picture settings. The LG C4's integrated 2.2-channel speakers provide more than enough roomy Dolby Atmos sound, partly because of virtual 9.1.2-channel up mixing. However, you'll get more experience connecting it with one of the top soundbars. In addition, the C4's four HDMI 2.1 connections offer 4K 120Hz, customisable refresh rate, auto low latency mode, and fast media switching, making it an unrivalled gaming TV. Additionally, PC gaming is supported at 144Hz. The best all-arounder, it's reasonably priced and offers top-notch features and images at a more moderate cost.-
LG B4
Specifications:
• Panel type: OLED • Refresh rate: 120Hz • Smart TV: webOS 24 • HDMI 2.1: 4 • HDR: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HLG • Measured peak brightness: 656 nits • Input lag: 9.2ms in Boost modeReasons to Buy
• Great overall picture quality • Affordable for an OLED • Extensive selection of gaming featuresReasons to Avoid
• Sub-par audio • Limited brightness compared to rivals • No HDR10+ supportDescription
The LG B4 boasts four HDMI 2.1 connectors and supports a 144Hz refresh rate, a major improvement over its predecessor, the B3. Additionally, it is compatible with 4K, 120Hz, VRR (including AMD Free Sync and Nvidia GSync), ALLM, and Dolby Vision games. It also has LG's Game Optimiser for a simple gaming setup. This includes a boost mode that reduces input lag to an extremely low 9.2 Ms, which is likely appropriate for professional-level gaming. There are several places where the B4 is lacking, and we discovered that while it had clear sounds, its bass was not as good as it looked. Its brightness detracts little from its image because it is lower than any other 2024 OLED you can get, much like mini-LED TVs.-
Samsung Q80D
Specifications:
• Panel type: QLED • Refresh rate: 120Hz • Smart TV: Tizen • HDMI 2.1: 4 • HDR: HDR10+, HDR10, HLG • Measured peak brightness: 1,024 nits • Input lag: 9.8msReasons to Buy
• Superb contrast and black levels • Vivid colour • Surprisingly good soundReasons to Avoid
• No Dolby Vision • Picture requires some setup • Minor backlight issuesDescription
With its excellent picture clarity, unexpectedly powerful sound, and fantastic gaming capabilities and performance, the Samsung Q80D is a high-end QLED TV that would typically cost far more than this reasonably priced, mid-range Samsung. First and foremost, the Q80D has excellent picture quality. Its vivid, intense colours and crisp details appropriately impressed us, but its rich contrast and deep black levels stood out. As mentioned in the Amazon review, "the local dimming system that’s largely responsible for this black level depth works its magic while throwing up impressively few backlight blooming or clouding issues." Its backlight management is very effective. The Q80D's list of features, which includes four HDMI 2.1 connections that enable 4K 120Hz, VRR (in both HDMI and AMD Free Sync Premium Pro formats), and ALLM, will appeal to gamers at this mid-range price. With a short 9.8ms input lag time and a correspondingly vibrant, strong image, the Q80D's performance is equally excellent. Effective sound is another feature of the Q80D that is uncommon for this price range. In addition to having a large soundstage, the Q80D also had good sound placement throughout the screen and beyond, as we discovered during testing. It also has crisp speaking and an appropriately aggressive bass. "One of the best-sounding TVs in Samsung’s 2024 range" is how some describe the Q80D.-
