Background
Before CPCB was established, state governments were responsible for controlling pollution. However, with the growing concern for the environment and the need for a centralized authority to deal with the problem, the CPCB was created. It is a statutory organization that works under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and is headquartered in Delhi.
