Eye flu is rising among the citizens of Delhi amidst the 2023 monsoon season. Also known as conjunctivitis, it is a condition that affects the transparent membrane lining the inside of the eyelids and the white part of the eye. It is also called pink eye and can affect people of all ages. It is highly contagious and is caused by viral or bacterial infections. The most common type is viral conjunctivitis. It can occur in people with a common cold or a respiratory infection. Although bacterial conjunctivitis is less common, it can be much more severe. It can be caused by not wearing clean eye contact. Allergic reactions to things like pollen and dust also cause conjunctivitis.
Eye flu is commonly on the rise during the rainy season in Delhi. However, this year, due to the heavy rainfall, doctors around the city are witnessing more cases than ever. The reason is the hefty rainfalls, flooding, and atmospheric moisture. Saurabh Bharadwaj, Health Minister of Delhi, has himself stated that the cases are coming up due to humidity in the air. In these rising times of this flu, let’s understand it better.
