5 things to keep your house cool during summers

With the arrival of summer, everyone gets worried about what to do so that the house can be kept a little cool even in the rising temperature.

Here are 5 changes by which you can keep your house cool during summers:

  • False ceiling

False ceiling made from Plaster of Paris (POP) or Gypsum on the top floor has the ability to reduce the temperature of the room by 4 to 5 degree Celsius. You can also use thermocol sheets or glass wool along with it, then you can further reduce the temperature by at least 4 degrees Celsius.

  • Color scheme

White and blue colors give a feeling of coolness.  Along with this, you can use color combinations of any two colors in the interior by mixing light gray color. Avoid using bright colors in summers. The lower or lighter the color, the cooler the eyes will look.

  • Black out curtains

Use blackout fabric curtains on the windows where the sun comes in during the summer. In these, the back layer prevents sunlight from coming in. With this, you can completely block the light in your room even in the afternoon, which will make the summer afternoon quite relaxing.

  • Water sources

A lot of water-filled sources placed both outdoors and indoors will help to keep the temperature cool, whether a small water source placed on a table or built on a spring wall. Don’t forget to give enough space to the plants inside and outside the house. This will get your house rid of dullness in summer and the room temperature will also stay low.

  • Terrace Garden

If the roof of your house gets very hot during the summer, then dig and grow plants on the roof by applying a good waterproofing or temperature control layer. Due to this, not only the surface area of the roof will be saved from heating, as well as the wet soil of the pots and plants will also remain cool.

  • If you are building a new house then use:
  • Autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC Block)

If you are building a new house, then instead of bricks, you can build your walls using this material. The biggest advantage of the AAC block is its ability to reduce temperature. Walls made of it can keep the temperature 3 to 4 °C lower than normal brick walls. Discuss this with your home architect.

  • Directions

In the Indian context, the south and west walls face more sunlight and hot winds. The rules for keeping these directions closed have been given in Vastu also. Therefore, whatever openings or windows have to be given, if you give them as far as possible in the north or east direction, then your house will be saved to a great extent from the heat and hot winds.

  • Temperature Control Layer: There are some new materials available these days, which you can apply before laying the tiles on the roof, reducing the temperature inside the house by 5 to 6 degrees Celsius. This material is available in many brands. You can discuss this with your architect.
