With Google Wallet, an Android digital wallet, you can access commonplace items like airline boarding passes, movie and event tickets, bus tickets, brand loyalty cards, and pictures of crucial documents, among other things.
According to the press release, Google has teamed up with 20 of the best Indian brands—PVR & INOX, Air India, Indigo, Flipkart, Pine Labs, Hyderabad Metro, Kochi Metro, VRL Travels, Abhibus, Dominos, Shoppers Stop, and many more—to allow the Google Wallet experience.
The following enumerates every feature that Google Wallet can be used for:
- Movie or event passes: To make movies and event tickets easily accessible when needed, you can add and save them in Google Wallet.
- Passes for flights: Flights can also be added to this wallet. To add a boarding pass to one’s wallet, users must take a screenshot and select the “Add to Google Wallet.” option, which is exclusive to Google Pixel smartphones.
- Brand allegiance or gift cards: Several digital versions of gift cards and loyalty programs can be kept in this wallet.
- Metro and bus tickets can also be kept in this wallet for use on public transportation.
- Corporate badge: In addition to storing some corporate identity cards, Google Wallet can access and display them based on needs
- Digitisation of hard copy documentation: Generate fresh passes within this Wallet using any picture that has a barcode or QR code, such as parking receipts, luggage tags, or airline boarding passes
- Features unique to Gmail: if an individual has enabled Gmail’s smart personalization settings, the event confirmation received to their Gmail account after purchasing a movie, IPL, or train ticket will automatically appear in their Google Wallet.
How is Google Wallet used in India?
If the Android version on your device is 7.0 or higher, go to the Play Store, search for “Google Wallet,” and download it. Once downloaded, adhere to the instructions listed below:
Step 1
You can access the Google Wallet app without providing additional information if you are already signed into your Google account. The ‘Add Items’ page will be the first thing you see. ‘Add to Wallet’ will be a button on this page. You must click on it. A list of objects you can add will appear when you click on it. Four categories will exist as of May 8, 2024: photo, loyalty, gift card, and transport pass.
Step 2
Any category can be chosen. ‘Transport Pass’ is the example that we have used here. The ‘Transport Pass’ choice will cause a new list of alternatives to appear on your screen. Following your reroute to the Kochi Metro website and request to log in with your Google account, you can only add the metro ticket to Google Wallet after selecting the Kochi Metro option within the Google Wallet app.
What sets Google Pay apart from Google Wallet?
The Google Pay app is primarily used for different types of payments, whereas the Google Wallet app lacks capabilities connected to payments. Google Wallet is an addition to Google Pay, which will keep meeting consumers’ payment demands all over India. The app for all payment needs is still Google Pay. You can keep your digital auto keys in Google Wallet as well.
The model of the automobiles that support this function could not be readily determined. Still, Google has verified that their Wallet supports “digital car keys” and is now collaborating with BMW.
