Know about medical tests for women

It is better to recognize early than to treat the disease when symptoms arise.  Here are some standard health tests that a woman should take, but it is much better to consult a doctor before going for them: Before the ’30s Do get your haemoglobin test done so that blood deficiency can be diagnosed in time. The lack of Vitamin D is usually seen in women nowadays, so getting Vitamin D tested can also be beneficial. BMI test should also be done.  After the ’30s  Blood and vitamin test: In this, the level of haemoglobin, polymers, lymphocytes, monocytes, platelets etc., is measured. Vitamin D and B12 deficiencies are also detected. Their lack causes fatigue and weakness in women.
  • Pelvic examination with Pap smear 
Pelvic examination examines the female genitals, uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes, rectum and bladder. Both these tests help prevent and early treatment of cancer in women. 
  • Diabetes screening
Gestational diabetes can affect even a healthy woman. So get your blood sugar checked. If diabetes is genetic, keep getting tested for it at intervals of some time. 
  • Mammograms and breast exams Screening tests are usually recommended after 40. Still, if breast cancer is predisposed, it is better to have a mammogram beforehand and regular breast exams.
 After the ’40s
  •  Lipid profile and cholesterol screening
In this, cholesterol is checked by a blood test, and an ECG is also done if needed.
  • Cervical and breast cancer screening
A Pap smear test is done to check for cervical cancer. After the age of 40, this test should be done. Apart from this, do not forget to get a regular breast examination every two to 3 weeks. You can also do the physical examination yourself. If you feel any lump, see a doctor immediately.
  • Thyroid test
Thyroid gradually affects the body system, so investigate it with medical advice. 
  • Vision test
Get a vision test every year if you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. If you do not wear glasses at home, get tested once every two years.  After the ’50s
  • Heart tests
ECG, Echo, EKG (Electrocardiogram), BP, and TMT should be done for the heart. 
  • Cholesterol check 
Have a cholesterol test every year. If suffering from diabetes, heart or kidney disease, then get the test done at even shorter intervals or per the doctor's advice. 
  • Psychological Screening Menopause causes mood swings, depression, sleeplessness, and irritability. This happens in 75% of women due to hormonal changes. 
 After the ’60s
  • Blood pressure test
High blood pressure is often called the silent killer because it increases the risk of a heart attack without showing any symptoms. A regular blood pressure check is essential. Many blood pressure checking machines are available at the medical shops. You can check your blood pressure every day by purchasing small BP machines.
  • Bone density test
Osteoporosis is a common disease in the elderly. Get a bone density test done after consulting a doctor.
  • Eye test
Age increases the risk of developing eye diseases like glaucoma or cataracts. Get it checked every six months or periodically after consulting a doctor.
