On January 15, 2025, a long-distance trail running 540 km on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad track was successfully conducted. The RDSO, which is mandated to certify the train for operations before it can be run commercially, conducted these trials.

Production and Future Plans

The Indian Railways has specified an ambitious production plan for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains in the wake of successful trials. The ministry has ordered nine new 16-car sleeper trains, which will be built from April 2025 to December 2025. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai will manufacture these trains.
