When two exes meet, some Tamasha surely happens. Ranbir and Deepika has teamed up yet again to create madness and fun in ‘Tamasha’ that has been directed by Imtiaz Ali. The duo is sharing screen space for the third time after ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’. Ranbir-Deepika’s pairing and Imitiaz Ali’s direction made much buzz and hype, especially among youngsters even before its release. Now let’s check out how much ‘Tamasha’ the trio managed to create onscreen. Plot Ved Vardhan Sahni (Ranbir Kapoor) is a boy from Simla who, in his childhood, used to listen to mythical stories told by an old man. He always yearned to be storyteller himself, but was pushed into the world of Mathematics and Management by an overbearing father (Javed Sheikh). He meets Tara Maheshwari (Deepika Padukone) in Corsica, France. They meet as strangers and stay together without disclosing each other’s identity. After few years, they meet again in Delhi and fall in love. But, this time Ved is an entirely different person, a corporate boy. Then begins the story of heart break, longing and coming together. This part also sees Ved introspecting as to what he is and what he wants to do in life. Does Ved discover himself and get his lady love is what forms the core of ‘Tamasha’.

Tamasha Performances

Ranbir and Deepika are not just the lead actors; in fact they are the only actors in the movie. The entire film revolves around them. Performance wise, both of them have done a tremendous job. Ranbir is a fine actor and has great potential; unfortunately poor scripts are not letting him gain success for quite some time now. In Tamasha, too, he has given a decent performance. Whether he is playing the fun-loving guy, or a teenager, or the decent, simple, professional boy, the transitions are portrayed by him quite well. Deepika was very comfortable in playing her role. She excels in showing her emotions, such as being happy or sad. She simply shines throughout the movie. The chemistry between Ranbir and Deepika is commendable in the film. The supporting cast has done a decent job to keep the film moving. What fail in ‘Tamasha’ is the script and the direction. Yes! Imtiaz Ali has to come out of the same line of stories. ‘Tamasha’ gives you many moments of ‘Jab We Met’ coupled with ‘Rockstar’. He missed the minute detailing like in the very first scene when Deepika and Ranbir meet at Corsica, Deepika is wearing blue footwear, but after a fraction of second, it changes to red.

Tamasha Music

The music of ‘Tamasha’ is soulful and beautiful. It could be considered one of the best music albums with A.R. Rahman at his magical best to showcase the love story of Ranbir and Deepika. The music album is a pack of different genres of music – peppy, jazzy, romantic, sad, qawaali – there are songs for every mood and moment. All the songs are aptly sequenced in the movie. The songs won the hearts of the audience and found a place in the chartbusters. “Matargashti”, “Heer Toh Badi Sad Hai”, “Agar Tum Saath Ho” and “Wat Wat Wat” are the best picks of the lot. What’s Good?

The on-screen chemistry of Ranbir and Deepika is the biggest plus point of the film. The locations of Corsica and Simla are visual treats.

What’s Bad?

The story could have been better as it is on the same lines of love, break-up and inner conflicts; what we have seen in the earlier works of Imtiaz. Verdict: ‘Tamasha’ is not a bad treat if considered as a one-time watch!
