Helmed by Luv Ranjan, ‘Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety’ was released in 2018, starring Kartik Aaryan (Sonu), Sunny Singh (Titu), and Nushrratt Bharucha (Sweety). It was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 28 cr and collected over 100 cr, becoming a blockbuster and later receiving IIFA Award for Best Music Director and Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role.
The story shows Sonu and Titu as childhood friends. Titu, a naive lover, falls in love quickly, and Sonu jumps to save him. However, Sweety is the fine bride, and Titu seems head over heels in love with her. Sonu protects Titu irrespective of the cost, making him feel she’s too good to be true. Sweety tries to break the friendship and gets into terrific dialogues with Sonu. Ultimately, Titu chooses Sonu as faith in friendship, knowing his friend is right.
Many went on to watch it time and again and felt the precious and relatable story. The bromance between the duo is apparent & eternal; the song ‘Tera Yaar Hoon Main’ by Arijit Singh is the icing on the cake. One of the overwhelming dialogues comes from Sonu, “Ya Toh Ab Dost Jeetayega…ya phir theek hai….Sonu Titu bhi auro ki tarah 3 mahine mein mil liya karenge…Birthdays pe call kar liya karenge…Daru peeke apni dosti ke kisse suna liya karenge.”
It’s an anytime-watch movie where brotherhood is shown stronger than ever amidst the rise of bogus friendship in reality, but there are best friendship stories, too, undoubtedly. It’s truly inspiring that Luv has tried to direct it so carefully, and funnily, it was released during Valentine’s month.
According to Kartik, this movie became a turning point in his career. He also has a mischievous role, where he entertains viewers with punch dialogues. It’s his generosity to sign such a much-needed film and perform impeccably as per the scenes. Sunny & Nushrratt deliver suitable.
Friendship is precious and has become more than anything to prioritise and enjoy the warmth it brings to erase or decrease misery. Many would add this movie to the list of most loved friendship movies. Its sequel is awaited, which would make it more exciting to watch. It’s not a movie but an emotion that everyone who made it from their hearts. It is a feather in Luv Ranjan’s cap to create a special movie that will be remembered for decades.
