[caption id="attachment_34103" align="aligncenter" width="665"]khan Market in Delhi Khan Market[/caption] Central Delhi has always been deemed as the new-fangled niche of modernity when compared with the rest of the city. Fashion or culture, this highly urbanised diplomatic enclave of Delhi stands way ahead in every aspect. Delhi is known for its spectacularly posh markets that attract the high society cliques and Khan Market is one of them. Voguishly known as “Khan”, it is one of the most sumptuous markets of Delhi. Khan Market is basically a posh fashion street most liked by the elites and expats of the city. The presence of ultra-chic designer stores had got this place rated as the 21st most expensive shopping high-streets of the world in the year 2010.

History

Khan Market may be referred to as a contemporary shopping arcade but the inception of this place dates back to the year 1951. It was named after Khan Abdul Jabbar Khan, the brother of Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan, by the immigrants from the North-West Frontier Province. Khan Abdul Jabbar Khan had apparently helped them immigrate to India during the partition and thus the people named this place in his honour. Built in a U-shape, Khan Market was originally a double-storey complex with 154 shops and 74 flats. However, commercialization and the real-estate boom transformed this place into retail upmarket.

What it offers

Today, Khan Market stands as of the classiest hotspots for hanging around in Delhi. Apart from designer stores, it also houses a good number of cafes, bakeries and street-food corners, which have in fact taken over as the USP of this place. More than the retail outlets, the cafes and lounges here have become a rage amongst the young hearts. The market is seen to be the most crowded during the evenings. Modishly dressed lads and lasses can be sighted absorbed in the ambience of the streets of Khan. The vibrantly happening atmosphere of Khan Market is the bedazzling charm of this place!
