The blue sky, placid water, coconut trees and traditional Kerala houseboats (called kettuvallam)– welcome you to the backwaters of Kerala! I am not too sure if ‘backwaters’ is the right word to describe the simplicity and charm of this experience; but this is how the network of lagoons, canals, rivers and lakes running inland from the coast of Kerala are addressed.
The glimpse of local lifestyles, incredible greens, soft breeze and colourful birds. This magic can be best experienced in small boats, shikaras or canoes that traverse easily even through narrow streams of water. Escape the sudden downpours of monsoon rains and plan a trip between October and April, and Kerala wont let you down.
The backwaters of Kerala are not to be missed!
