A state in the Western US, Hawaii is located in the Pacific Ocean, some 2,000 miles from the US mainland. It is the only state in the United States that is not in North America, an archipelago, or a tropical region. Hawaii is the 11th least populous and eighth smallest in terms of the land area of the 50 U.S. states, but it ranks 13th in terms of population density with 1.4 million people.

Hawaii, an American state located in the Pacific Ocean, has Honolulu as its capital and largest city. It is located on the southeast coast of the island of Oahu and serves as the unincorporated county seat for the combined City and County of Honolulu. It is also the most western and southern major city in the United States. The main international entrance to Hawaii is Honolulu. Additionally, it serves as a key center for commerce, finance, hospitality, and military defense in both the state and Oceania.

History

One of only two states in the union that enjoyed international recognition as independent countries before joining the union is Hawaii. From 1810 until 1893, when local American and European landowners and capitalists overthrew the monarchy, the Kingdom of Hawai'i was a sovereign state. Between 1894 and August 12, 1898, Hawai'i was a sovereign republic before becoming a U.S. territory. On August 21, 1959, Hawaii was admitted as a state to the Union.

Culture

The expansive Polynesian Triangle of the central and southern Pacific Ocean extends northward to Hawaii. Although there are still remnants of traditional Hawaiian culture in contemporary Hawaiian society, the ceremonies and traditions are recreated all over the islands. The popularity of the lau and hula, for example, is one example of a cultural influence that is potent enough to have an impact on the entire United States. The traditional hula dance is one of the most recognizable representations of Hawaiian culture. Hula is a traditional Polynesian art form that entails dance and musical accompaniment.

Language

The three languages that are spoken the most in Hawaii are English, Hawaiian, and Hawaiian Creole English.

The Hawaiian Constitution recognizes English and Hawaiian as official languages, but not Pidgin. Due to this, Hawaii is the only state with two official languages. Polynesian languages include Hawaiian and Olelo Hawai'i.

Geography

It is the youngest island of the Hawaiian Islands and was formed by five volcanoes that are connected by lava saddles. The two volcanoes are the main attraction of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has been named a World Heritage site. Mauna Loa, which is about 25 miles west of Kilauea, is thought to be the largest volcano in the world. The island resembles a triangle in shape. Its highest point, Mauna Kea, is also the state's highest point.
