Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Mumbai stretches up to 23.55kms in length. The expressway also serves as a link to the National Highway 3. The expressway has a total of 6 lanes and it connects to all the suburbs of North Mumbai with the South Mumbai. Chhatrapati Shivaji is the starting point of the expressway and Sion Panvel Highway cuts the Eastern Expressway at the RCF junction and connects it to the outer areas of the city where it is popular by the name of Dr Ambedkar Road. As many as 50,000 passenger cars use the expressway on a daily basis. The traffic is directed towards the South of the city in the mornings while it is directed towards North of the city in the evenings. MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan region Development Authority) has taken several steps for the improvement and maintenance of the expressway. Special BEST buses will run on this expressway soon and will enable the passengers avoid traffic jams by using flyovers and thus save time.
